Even though the production of the BMW iNEXT is set to start in 2024, the first official images have been released as the company has put the pre-production version of the SUV on winter testing. The all-electric flagship SUV underwent the winter testing in order to test how cold weather affects its performance, as well as the effectiveness of the electric motor and the charging characteristics of the battery pack.
This SUV is several years away from showrooms and the company hasn’t revealed its final name yet. Comparing the BMW iNEXT to the concept model, we can see plenty of differences and changes, especially in design. There are no more rear suicide doors, but conventional units. The concept’s front end comes with a smaller grille and an added air scoop.
Moreover, the 2024 BMW iNEXT features wing-mounted cameras instead of conventional rear-view mirrors and the swept-back panoramic windscreen and the concept’s slim LED headlights are located on the mule.
There are still unknown details about the all-electric flagship SUV, including its powertrain, performance, and range. Nevertheless, the BMW iNEXT will be the first vehicle of this company which will be able to support petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains. However, note that this SUV will only be available as an electric vehicle. In fact, it is believed to feature a maximum battery size of 120kWh which can reportedly enable an official range of 435 miles on a single charge.
Exterior Design
The Vision iNEXT concept is a large two-box SUV with over five meters long. It is quite similar to an X6 in height and to X5 in footprint. The concept has no B-pillar, but features 24-inch wheels. The Vision iNEXT concept is considered to be an i car as it has a new ‘streamflow’ style window line employed on the iVision Dynamics concept. Each corner of the front apron comes with tall and upright gills.
Moreover, exceptionally slim four-piece headlights are placed on either side of a huge interlinked kidney grille at the front end. However, they are blanked off to signify the car’s electric powertrain. There are wing-mounted cameras instead of conventional rear-view mirrors. One camera faces forward and one backward, but there are both combined with a selection of radars, lidars, cameras, GPS antennas and an external microphone.
Moreover, the model is expected to contain 5G communication, which will provide an opportunity for cars autonomous cars to communicate with each other. Last but not least when it comes to its exterior is the fact that there is a seamless panoramic panel created by the windscreen sweeps upwards into the car’s roof.
Interior Design
Probably the most beautiful part about the BMW iNEXT concept is its interior design, which is made to resemble furniture. However, its stargazing features won’t be completely seen until the finished item appears in 2024.
The inside of the BMW iNEXT concept is a combo of open-pore wood, illuminated crystal glass and textile cloth. There is a steering wheel in the front compartment as well as pedals which fold flush into the wooden floor as soon as the concept switches into autonomous mode.
The interior has been very thoughtfully designed from vegan-friendly materials. The seats are unique, while the lounge style rear quarters are asymmetrical. The boutique hotel-inspired cabin featured a huge touchscreen display atop the dashboard. Moreover, there are touch sensors and micro LEDs located underneath a veneer of wood on the center console and embedded in the fabric. So, everyone on board can control minor features.
We still don’t know how the back of the concept will look like.
