When we talk about a wedding we all want to spend an unforgettable day. There are many ways to do that, but the most important thing to have in mind is that your wedding must be about both of you. What does it mean? Well, for starters you should do only what you want to do and not what others tell you to. It is common to let family and friends help you or suggest some ideas, but that’s all they should do. They should not decide or impose what they want.
Let this be an example: in this post, we are giving you some suggestions that could inspire you or help you do something you never thought of, but of course, we are not imposing anything.
Let’s get started with some ideas:

Elope
The riskiest but also the trendiest right now, and the most intimate. To ‘run away with your lover’ is one of the trendiest things right now. It is the way to avoid family and friends telling you what to do and celebrate your day in the most intimate way possible. You only need each other, an officiant, a wedding planner or a friend helping you decorate and a photographer to have it captured in pictures.
It’s also the cheapest option since you can go as far as you want to, but only concerning the two of you.
The downside is that there is no one else around you, but that can be easily fixable celebrating a big party some other day with all your guests, while the official day would have been all about your wedding vision.
Destination weddings
This is a huge one! In words of d’Althea, who are destination wedding photographers in Spain, it is the best idea even though they love elopements. This time, it is not only about you two, friends and family that will join you, but in a completely different country, with a whole new and exotic vibe which will make your day completely unique.
For example, let’s take Spain: in this amazing country, you can find plenty of scenarios to get married. Beaches, mountains, amazing venues, hotels, country houses… But more special, the Spanish vibe is quite unique. People are so nice, the weather is just perfect (especially on the Mediterranean side, with more than 300 days a year of the sun), and the food is one of the best and healthiest in the world.
Let’s say you want to have a destination wedding in Spain and the place of choice to get married is the Costa Blanca, in Alicante. The Mediterranean Sea is all over the place, it almost never rains, the weather is warm and the food is amazing. Wouldn’t it be unforgettable?
Choose the perfect hour
Form and place is important, but it also is time, especially when we are talking about your memories in a photograph. Lighting is everything in photography/videography. Finding the perfect hour for your ceremony is something you can’t forget to do. For example, if your wedding is going to be in the morning, let’s say 12pm, sun position is so up and direct that chances are your pictures will have extreme contrast between lights and shadows. Unless it all happens in the interior you will need to place some kind of big light diffusor, which can also be used as roof if it’s in summer and want your guests to be more comfortable blocking the sun heat a little bit.
On the other side, if you pick an evening hour to celebrate your wedding the light is going to be much better, more flattering and with amazing tones and transitions. Your pictures or video will be much better because the sun is lower creating softer shadows and lower contrast between high light and dark shadows. It also has a more orange tone which makes skin tones look better.
Also, the party is supposed to be at night, so you can easily connect everything -from reception to first dance and night party- making things very fluent.
Dare to try different things
You might have noticed that all along, we have been encouraging you to try something different, and this fourth idea is not going to be any different, but maybe it doesn’t need to be big things, such as elope or travel abroad. There are smaller things that can be done too.
A trendy idea could be hiring or purchasing neon led lights with your names, or a sentence that represents you both. It’s a great spot to use as photo-call too, and you can have some pictures taken with it, which gives a lovely light.
Hiring a local band to cover known songs with their own style is also a great idea. For example, d’Althea told us about a wedding they did in Javea (Alicante). The groom was from Canada and the bride from France, and they picked the Costa Blanca to celebrate their wedding. In the Mediterranean banquet with a special table with bread, different types of olive oil, different types of cheese and wine one of the big things of their wedding was a flamenco band. They played from known flamenco songs to pop songs covered with a guitar, a flamenco drum box and singing like flamenco style and their guests loved it.
Find trustworthy providers
Yes, a wedding is expensive, and we all try to cut expenses not only on a wedding day but also on everything related to the wedding in general. In fact, it can be even more expensive, or at worst it can completely mess with your day. It needs time, but try to meet the providers and check how you feel with them around you. Do you have the same vibe? Do you feel comfortable with them?
Do you feel you can trust them? Listening to your gut is important. If you’re considering doing a destination wedding and you can’t meet the providers in person schedule a videoconference with them. Anything to see if they are the proper professional for you.
If everything is OK and you feel you found the ones you want for your wedding day ask for an agreement to have written and signed every clause (and read it!) so there are no surprises at the end of the day.
If all of this is too much you can consider hiring a wedding planner to get professional help, who also knows the best and trustworthy providers so you don’t need to worry about a thing but having the time of your life.
