Reading the headline, you must be thinking, “Why would I want to go to a flying school like Fly Aeroguard?” Flying isn’t like driving or working on an espresso machine, or any of the other skills we need in everyday life. Unless you’re a commercial pilot, or in the air force, there’s almost no reason why you’d need to learn how to fly. Or is there any?
It turns out there are many reasons why you should learn to fly. If you think about it, learning to fly might even be a crucial life skill to have. Why? To state the most obvious, you’d definitely want to be able to pilot an aircraft on the off chance that you find yourself in a situation that demands it. Even though this is pretty rare, it’s a reason.
Here are some other things to make you consider going to flight school.
You’ll get an improved sense of awareness
If you know how to drive, then you know that people, in general, tend to pick up some things after they start driving. For example, you can judge how far the car’s trunk and bonnet extends. This sense of awareness keeps you from rear-ending the drivers in front of you, or backing up into others. The same thing happens when you learn to pilot an aircraft.
You develop a sense of spatial awareness. This means you’re more in-tune with your body, and can better gauge your balance and orientation in space. All of these may be subtle at first, but as time goes on, they will function to improve your balance and hand-eye coordination. You’ll effectively have heightened skills and better control of your body.
You’ll learn mastery, order, and self-control.
These three attributes are just some of the psychological requirements for being a good pilot. To be able to fly a plane or helicopter successfully, you need a sense of order. Before you even lift the bird off the ground, you’ll need to go through a pre-flight checklist that makes sure everything is in perfect working condition. Pilots are trained to stick to the checklist, and they never lift off without it. Can you imagine how having a checklist can help you in your daily routine? For one thing, it means you’ll never forget your keys again!
Pilots also have incredible self-control and mastery over themselves. You need this because when you’re cruising at 30,000 feet in a fancy-shaped metal box, the last thing you need is to lose your cool. Freaking out can lead to dire consequences for you and everyone else on your aircraft. The fantastic thing is that this is another skill you’ll pick up unconsciously. Part of the training in flight school will teach you all the things you need to focus on (the instruments), and all the things you need to ignore (your fears).
Now, you can see that everyone needs to go to flight school for a number of reasons, including just to learn how to master themselves a little better.
